Ryant Diew – Bio:
Coach Diew is an Oakland native who attended and started for the 1983 OAL champion Fremont Tigers. He played two seasons at the College of Alameda from 1983-1985. During the 84–85 season, he averaged 27.3 points per game and finished as the number two JUCO scorer in the state of California. He finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
After the College of Alameda, he attended the University of the Pacific, but later transferred to Cal State Hayward (now known as Cal State East bay) where he averaged a then school record 21.5 points per game during the 87-88 season and 22.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assist per game over his 2 seasons at the Hilltop to finish as the school’s 3rd all-time leading scorer with 995 points in only 45 games.
In 2002, he started coaching club basketball for the Oakland Rebels, where he had the pleasure of coaching more than 17 D1 players and pros including: Marcus Lee (Kentucky/Miami Heat), Isaiah Taylor (Texas/Atlanta Hawks), Brandon Ashley (Arizona/Dallas Mavericks), as well as current Overtime Elite player Jalen Lewis, who is currently the youngest player in US history to sign a professional contract. As a coach he is considered to be one of the top defensive coaches on the West Coast.
Shawn Hadnot – Bio:
Coach Hadnot played at James Logan High School and was a Captain on the 1984 first ever MVAL Basketball Championship team. He went on to play for Chabot College from 1984-1986, then continued his playing career at Grambling State University for Coach Hopkins.
He earned a BS degree in business management in 1990, then obtained a Master’s degree in 1994 in Public Administration from the College of Notre Dame.
Coach Hadnot began coaching with the Oakland Rebels AAU organization in 2002. Over the next several years, he had the pleasure of developing and coaching some of the best talent in the bay area in the classes of 2011, 2012 and 2013. He continued to coach with the rebels until 2020.
The philosophy that keeps him grounded is “Basketball is a tool that teaches life skills. Players need to recognize that basketball has to be taught just like any other course such as Math, English and History. Also remember that no one has the patent on being good. It takes work”
George Johnson – Bio:
Coach Johnson attended Mt. Diablo (Concord, CA) high school’s graduating class of 1990. As a junior he was a team captain, averaged 14.9 points per game and honored as an All-league DFAL and All-City selection. As a senior, George was one of the top East Bay area scoring leaders averaging 20.2 points per game. He was honored as a First Team All-DFAL and All-Cities selection, as well as a San Francisco Chronicle All-Bay Area team player.
He received a basketball scholarship from Hall of Fame coach Danny Miles to play for the Oregon Tech Hustlin” Owls (NAIA school- Klamath Falls, Oregon). George played for two years under Coach Miles before transferring and finishing out his playing career for the California State University Hayward Pioneers, where he earned a bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.
Coach George ran his own AAU program (Diablo Valley Youth Basketball Academy) for three years and has coached CYO for 10+ years where his Good Shepherd Church teams won the Oakland Diocese Championship three times. He served one year as a varsity assistant at Mount Diablo high school and worked with various other Bay Area organizations/camps including: Excel Basketball Camp, Slam N Jam Hot Prospect Camp, Northern California’s Super 100 Camp, MVP Flight organization, Adidas Junior Phenom regional camps and the Triple Threat Academy.
Darren Austin – Bio:
Coach Darren Austin played at Northeast high school in Kansas City, MO. Coach Austin began coaching with the Oakland Rebels AAU organization in 2005 and has been a U.S. Basketball Coach since 2019. He is now serving as an assistant with Team California. He has helped develop both middle school and high school players in the Bay Area.
His philosophy has always been to try to assist players to become better people as well as better players on and off the court.
