There are a myriad of obstacles affecting the lives of at-risk inner-city youth
today. A significant proportion of them are at substantial risk for negative
outcomes: poor economic prospects, crime, violence, gang violence,
undernourishment, abuse, neglect, teenage pregnancy. They face daily
pressures of drug and alcohol use and abuse, political and social issues, and
experience substandard education in under-resourced schools. They themselves
did not create the great family, community, social, political, and economic
challenges they live with. These students are less likely to complete their
homework or come to class prepared with necessary books or supplies, and are
by far the biggest candidates for academic underachievement.

The California Academic and Athletic Academy aims to address these issues by creating opportunities and providing support for these promising underprivileged youth to fulfill their potential in the classroom, on the court, and in the community. Our mission is to educate, support and empower these gifted young people to be leaders, champions, and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life. Specifically, our organization uses basketball as a “hook” to engage young men and women in the program, help them access high quality educational opportunities, and instill in them the values and life skills that will prepare them for success in life beyond sports.

In order to engage in this life changing work, we need your help. Your support is key in helping solve this problem. When you join the CAAA as a donor, your gift creates an opportunity for every child in our program to get the support they need in order to thrive.
